Stephen Battell LimeX Case Study

LimeX British Sugar Hall: 2 Stand information: 2.542

Stephen Battell grows cereals, oilseed rape, sugar beet and spring beans on his farm near Diss in Suffolk. The case study is about how Stephen uses LimeX and how this benefits his farm.

Stephen Battell LimeX case study

We spread LimeX in blocks across the farm as a repair (to restore the soil pH). We’re going on at 12 t/Ha at the minute.

After next year, we will have been around the whole farm at that rate. We will then drop down to 8 t/Ha (to maintain the soil pH). We’ll probably be buying the same tonnage but just covering more area.

It’s a hassle-free product.

We have contractors spread LimeX for us. This is one of the benefits of having it. You can have it delivered, tipped up in a field, and spread. It’s one less job for us to do at a busy time of the year.

All our straw is chopped, so our K levels are pretty good. Having the phosphate (in LimeX) is handy to top that up. There are a lot of other nutrients in it as well; I don’t think you could buy them all in one fertiliser bag.
